NCCU VOLLEYBALL HITS THE ROAD FOR CHARLESTON SOUTHERN TOURNAMENT DURHAM, NC - The North Carolina Central University Eagles volleyball team is on the road for the first time this season to compete in the Charleston Southern Tournament on Aug. 31-Sept 1. NCCU will face Campbell University on Friday at 1 p.m. This is the second time that the Eagles will face the Camels, as Campbell defeated the Eagles earlier in the season 3-0. NCCU will face host Charleston Southern in the night cap at 7 p.m. Saturday the Eagles will face the Hurricanes of Tulsa University at 1 p.m., and the Hatters of Stetson University at 5 p.m. The Eagles are 3-2 with Division I wins over North Carolina State, Norfolk State and South Carolina State Universities over this past weekend’s home opener. NCCU is in its first year of reclassification to Division I. The
Eagles are led by senior outside hitter Shari Matthews, who is the reigning
Division II Player of the Year. Matthews, who hails from Bridgetown,
Barbados, leads the team with 70 kills and is averaging 4.12 kills per
game along with 12 aces in the first five matches.
