EAGLES LOSE TO BULLDOGS ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville took a 3-1 win over visiting North Carolina Central University in volleyball action Tuesday. The Bulldogs won the match, 27-30, 30-22, 30-20, and 30-24. NCCU, which dropped its overall record to 7-6, was led by Shari Matthews with 17 kills and eight digs. In game one, the Eagles took the lead midway through the game, after being down 13-9, and held off several Asheville comebacks to win, 30-27. The Bulldogs struggled with hitting errors in the first game as they made 17 and hit -.067. The Eagles controlled much of game two, leading 10-7, but the Bulldogs took charge in and roared back to win, 30-22. In the third game, UNC Asheville’s blocking took over as the Eagles had 12 hitting errors. The Bulldogs jumped to a 19-8 lead and took the match, 30-20. In the fourth game, the Bulldogs controlled the game leading 19-17, and went on a score spree to extend the lead 26-20. NCCU could get no closer than four points the rest of the game. Lloyd paced the Eagles’ defense with 14 digs and Ashley Shade had 45 assists
and 12 digs.
