NCCU'S MATTHEWS, WRIGHT TALLY 20 KILLS EACH IN WIN OVER UNC WILMINGTON DURHAM, NC - North Carolina Central University seniors Shari Matthews and Kai Wright amassed 20 kills apiece to lead the Eagles to a 3-2 (24-30, 30-20, 30-25, 23-30, 15-10) victory over UNC Wilmington on Tuesday (Oct. 9) inside the LeRoy T. Walker Complex in Durham, N.C. Along with their 20 kills, Matthews recorded 13 digs, six assists, four blocks and three service aces, while Wright contributed 16 digs, a block and a service ace. Fellow NCCU senior Anielle DaSilva followed closely behind with 19 kills to go along with 14 digs and two block assists. Junior setter Ashley Shade distributed a match-high 56 assists and added 12 digs, while sophomore libero Rachel Lloyd had four aces and a team-best 21 digs for the Eagles. NCCU extends it win streak to eight matches and improves its record to 15-9, while UNC Wilmington falls to 7-14 overall. The Seahawks were paced by freshman Rachael Caricato with a team-highs
of 13 kills and two blocks. Sophomore Anna Price tallied 12 kills and nine
digs, while sophomore Paula McConnell added 11 kills and eight digs. Defensively,
sophomore libero Ashlyn Morris collected a match-high 37 digs and a team-best
three service aces.
