NCCU’S MATTHEWS RANKS AMONG NATION’S TOP TEN IN SERVICE ACES

DURHAM, NC - North Carolina Central University senior outside hitter Shari Matthews is moving up in the NCAA Division I statistical rankings of women’s volleyball.

NCCU is not officially eligible to be included in NCAA Division I statistics until the 2011 season as part of its reclassification period, however Matthews would rank among the nation's top 10 in service aces.  Matthews would be ranked fifth on the NCAA Division I list in aces per game with an average of 0.72 per game.

Matthews is also on the path to become NCCU’s all-time career leader in kills.  The Bridgetown, Barbados native is 21 kills away from breaking current leader Danielle Johnson-Webb’s career record of 1,346 kills (2000, 2003-05).

The 15-9 Eagles are currently on an eight-match win streak heading into Tuesday’s contest at Campbell University.
