NCCU VOLLEYBALL HITS THE ROAD TO MARYLAND THIS WEEKEND
On Friday, Nov. 2, NCCU travels to the eastern shores of Maryland to face off against the Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Eagles travel to Baltimore to face the Bears of Morgan State University with a game time set for 2 p.m. Rounding out the trip for the Eagle express is a mere five-mile journey from Morgan State to Coppin State University for a showdown to take place Sunday, Nov. 4, at 1 p.m. Leading NCCU is senior outside hitter Shari Matthews, a native of Bridgetown, Barbados, who holds school records with 1,361 career kills and 217 career services aces... in only her second season with the Eagles. So far in 2007, Matthews would rank third in the nation with an average of 0.82 aces per game if NCCU was eligible for the NCAA Division I statistical rankings. As a team, the Eagles would rank third in the nation in service aces with an average of 2.51 aces per game. In 2006, Matthews became NCCU's first volleyball All-American and was
voted the NCAA Division II National Player of the Year after leading the
nation with an average of 6.37 kills and 0.92 service aces per game, while
also breaking the NCAA Division II record for kills in a season with 974.
