North Carolina Central UniversityCROSS COUNTRYThe Official Web Site of the North Carolina Central University "Eagle" Athletics Department(Sept. 8, 2007) [Women's Results] [Men's Results] NCCU MEN, WOMEN WIN UNC PEMBROKE CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL PEMBROKE, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men’s and women’s cross country teams swept the UNC Pembroke Cross Country Invitational as both teams finished in first place on Saturday. Topping the NCCU women in third place with a run time of 16:45.81 was Desinia Johnson, followed by Aisha Brown in fourth place with a time of 17:03.77. Rounding out the top 10 was Ashley Cooke with a time of 17:30.30. In the women’s overall standings, NCCU (45 points) edged second place Saint Augustine’s (52 points) and third place Winston-Salem State University (65 points), followed by Francis Marion (95 points), UNC Pembroke (104 points) and Shaw (152 points). On the men’s side, the Eagles set the pace finishing fifth, sixth and seventh. Brandon Jones led the way with a time of 20:20.80, followed by Rashaad Lee (20:38.10) and Gerald Jones (20:46.86). In the men’s overall standings, NCCU (51 points) outlasted second place Francis Marion (68 points) and third place UNC Pembroke (81 points), followed by St. Augustine’s (83 points), Shaw (97 points) and Winston-Salem State (100 points). NCCU will return to action on Sept. 22 as the Eagles compete in the Guilford College Old North State Championships in Greensboro, N.C. The first race is slated for 9:00 a.m.
