North Carolina Central UniversityCROSS COUNTRYThe Official Web Site of the North Carolina Central University "Eagle" Athletics Department(Sept. 22, 2007) [Women's Results] [Men's Results] NCCU MEN, WOMEN SWEEP OLD STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Central University men’s and women’s cross country teams swept for first place in the Guilford College Old North State Championships on Saturday afternoon. In the women’s race, NCCU finished four in the top ten. Leading the way for the Eagles was Desinia Johnson, who placed fourth with a time of 25:54 on the 6k-course, followed by Aisha Brown in sixth place (26:47). Rounding out the top finishers for the Eagles were Latanya Lasane (7th, 28:46) and Adrenne Sterrett (10th, 27:13). In the women’s overall standings, NCCU (38 points) edged second place Winston-Salem State (54 points) and third place Saint Augustine’s (89 points), followed by Salem (110 points), Guilford (117 points), Shaw (168 points), North Carolina A&T (171), Greensboro College (174) and Bluefield State (201). The NCCU men captured the top spot as they came out placing four runners in the top ten. Brandon Jones finished third for the Eagles with a time of 28:30 on the 8k-course, followed by fifth place James Kukat (28:50), seventh place Rashard Lee (29:09), and ninth place Gerald Jones (29:44). In the men’s overall standings, NCCU (41 points) edged second place North Carolina A&T (71 points) and third place Saint Augustine’s (76 points), followed by Greensboro College (88 points), Guilford (103 points), Shaw (152 points) and Methodist (201). NCCU will return to action on Sept. 29 as the Eagles compete in the
Greensboro College Cross Country Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. The first
race is slated for 9:00 a.m.
