Service-learning (SL) is an effective teaching strategy which is now being widely utilized in higher education. It is used here at North Carolina Central University by over forty faculty members. Its effectiveness has been demonstrated by research and reports of faculty at this college and across the country. The strategy is endorsed by the American Association of University Professors, College Campus Compact, American Association of Higher Education, Invisible College, and many other learned societies and professional organizations. Here at NCCU, its implementation is being coordinated by the Academic Community Service Learning Program (ACSLP).
