Senator Leroy Johnson ’57 has been selected as a 2009 inductee into the Gate City Bar Hall of Fame. This prestigious honor will be bestowed upon him at the Annual Hall of Fame Gala and Induction Ceremony, which will be held on November 13, 2009 at the Intercontinental Hotel Buckhead. The featured speaker is Donna Brazile, Weekly Contributor and Political Commentator on CNN Inside Politics and American Morning Show.

Gov. Bev Perdue today appointed District Court Judge Patrice Hinnant ’78 to the Superior Court District 18A for Guilford County, North Carolina. Hinnant will finish the unexpired term of Judge Henry Frye Jr., who retired July 31, 2009.

| Gwendolyn Burrell ’93 has been named Executive Director of the Governor’s Crime Commission Division by Secretary Reuben Young. Burrell has been the Deputy Director for grants management and statistical analysis in the division for the past six years. She oversaw the management of about 500 grants statewide to state and local government agencies and non-profits, and the collection and analysis of data relating to criminal justice programs. The Governor’s Crime Commission is comprised of 45 criminal justice professionals from across the state, including its Chairman, District Attorney Scott Thomas ‘92 who was appointed by Governor Perdue in June. |

Kimberly Moore '94
On January 15th, Attorney Kimberly Moore visited the law school to speak with students about her experiences since law school and to provide advice to those interested in a career in public service. Ms. Moore graduated from NCCU Law in 1994 and after a brief stint in private practice in rural eastern North Carolina, began her public service career as an Assistant District Attorney in Pitt County. She later joined the US Attorney’s Office in Raleigh and is now on special assignment as the Legal Advisor to Kosovo. Approximately 65 students filled the Great Hall to hear her extraordinary story. |
