Nationally recognized for the diversity of its students and faculty, the School of Law at North Carolina Central University is built on a proud tradition of achievement against historic odds. Founded in 1939 as the only law school that served African Americans in North Carolina, today the Law School is the most diverse in the nation with regard to race and gender. With excellence in classroom teaching at its foundation, the School of Law is committed to developing in its students a deep sense of personal integrity, professional responsibility and social conscience. North Carolina Central University has been the launching pad for scores of distinguished leaders in the legal field from state legislators, attorneys general, public defenders, legal aid attorneys, law firm practitioners, district attorneys, corporate executives, business owners, sitting judges and our state’s governor. It is with great pride that we invite you to visit our campus to talk with our students during our Fall 2008 on-campus interview season.
You may interview second and third year students through our program. The resumes of students interested in your office will be submitted to you two weeks prior to your scheduled date. While we discourage pre-screening, it is allowed. Pre-screen results should be received by our office at least one week prior to the interview date to allow ample time to arrange the interview schedule.
If you are unable to participate in our on-campus program, you may choose to participate in our resume collection program. Our office will collect resumes per your request, and forward them to you. You will then be able to contact each student individually regarding interview arrangements or you may contact us to arrange an interview via video conference.
We do not charge a fee for the recruitment of our students through either the on-campus interview or resume collection program. We do, however, ask that you complete our Recruiting Request Form as well as provide us with a copy of your office resume and your completed National Association for Law Placement (NALP) form if you are a member.
The School of Law does not make the services of its Office of Career Services available to employers who discriminate in their selection of employees on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age or handicap. Although the United States Military discriminates on the basis of sexual orientation, the School of Law makes its Career Services Office available to these recruiters because of the loss of federal funds that would otherwise be imposed on schools that have a policy or practice of denying access to military recruiters pursuant to the Solomon Amendment.
Our law school is located within fifteen miles of both Duke and UNC Law Schools and within an hour of Campbell, Elon and Wake Forest Law Schools. Charlotte Law School is only two hours away, if you plan to visit any of these schools, we will coordinate your visit to our campus.
We hope that your office will choose to recruit at North Carolina Central University. If you have any questions about either of our programs, please email us at lawcareerservices@nccu.edu or you may call Stephanie Troy Williams, Student Services Specialist at (919) 530-7701. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
