Professor Brenda D. Gibson ('95) is the Director of Legal Writing at North Carolina Central School of Law. Professor Gibson was born in Jasper County, North Carolina. Professor Gibson received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from North Carolina State University, and her Juris Doctor cum laude from NCCU School of Law.
She was previously employed as a Staff Attorney with the North Carolina Court of Appeals, Office of Staff Counsel. Prior to being a Staff Attorney, Professor Gibson was law clerk to Judge Clifton E. Johnson (retired) and Judge (now Justice) Patricia Timmons-Goodson at the Court of Appeals. Professional memberships include the NC State Bar, NC Bar Association, Tenth Judicial District Bar Association, Legal Writing Institute, and Member, Plagiarism Committee.
Other NCCU Law School activities include being a member of the Bar Enhancement and Retention Committee, Admissions Committee, Curriculum Committee, and Ad Hoc Faculty Services Committee. Professor Gibson has also conducted training sessions for Law Review, BPLI Journal and the Moot Court Board.
Professor Gibson is a voracious reader and enjoys writing. She has been a contributing author to the NCCU School of Law’s Of Counsel alumni magazine since 1998. Her hobbies include reading and mentoring community youth.
Professor Gibson is married to Adolph Simmons, Jr., and they have two sons. The family resides in Raleigh, North Carolina.
