Dionne R. Gonder-Stanley - Assistant Clinical Professor

Dionne R. Gonder-Stanley is an Assistant Clinical Professor for the Criminal Litigation Clinic. Professor Gonder joined the faculty at NCCU as a visiting professor in 2007.
Gonder-Stanley was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She received a B.A. Degree in Sociology from Duke University. She earned her J.D. magna cum laude at the New York University School of Law. Immediately after law school, she clerked for the Honorable James A. Beaty, Jr. at the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of N.C. in Winston-Salem. Since then, her professional experience has been primarily in the area of criminal defense litigation, including work at the Center for Death Penalty Litigation, the Durham County Public Defender’s Office, and the firm of Edwards & Trenkle, PLLC.
In addition to supervising students in the field, Professor Gonder-Stanley teaches Trial Practice and the classroom component of the Criminal Litigation Clinic. Professor Gonder-Stanley is involved with other NCCU Law School activities that include being the Faculty Advisor to Christian Legal Society, member of the Student Discipline Committee, member of Faculty Development Committee, and is a member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity International, Watkins Chapter.
Other professional memberships and community service activities include the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, George H. White Bar Association, and the Clinical Legal Education Association.
Professor Gonder-Stanley enjoys spending time with her husband and two children and following Duke University athletic teams, and dancing.
