Gregory Malhoit - Clinical Supervising Attorney

Gregory Malhoit received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Midland Lutheran College in 1970 and his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Nebraska in 1972.

  
Mr. Malhoit has been involved in the movement for equal justice for the poor throughout his entire legal career. He served as the founding Executive Director of East Central Community Legal Services in Raleigh, North Carolina from 1974 - 1992. Later he was the Executive Director of the North Carolina Legal Services Resource Center representing the interests of poor people in the North Carolina General Assembly. In 1993 he established the North Carolina Education and Law Project to advocate for improved educational opportunities for poor and minority students. In 1996, Mr. Malhoit became Executive Director of the N.C. Justice Center, a nationally recognized non-government funded legal and policy advocacy organization dedicated to improving the lives of poor and working poor North Carolinians. In 2001, Mr. Malhoit became the Director the Rural Education Finance Center, a nationwide project providing legal and policy support for attorneys, educators, parents and students working to secure equal and adequate funding for public schools in the courts. In 2005, Mr. Malhoit joined the faculty of N.C Central University School of Law.

  At NCCU Mr. Malhoit currently serves as a Clinical Instructor teaching courses in Civil Litigation, Appellate Advocacy and Trial Practice.

  Prior to joining the faculty at NCCU Law School, Mr. Malhoit served as an adjunct law instructor at NCCU. He has also been a guest lecturer at UNC Law School and Duke Law School on topics ranging from public school law to poverty law. He has served as a NITA Instructor and published several articles on topics related to public education policy and law.

   He is a member of the N.C. Bar Association, the Wake County Bar and he serves on the board of the Land Loss Prevention Project.

  Mr. Malhoit is an active reader, gardener and travels frequently overseas.
