Research Guides : English Literature and Criticisms

General Subject-Specific Particulars

This brief bibliography lists some of the core reference works available in Shepard Library which support research in English-language literatures. To keep this guide workable, it highlights a basic structure of literary study from general parameters to the narrowing of a topic within the controlled vocabularies scholars use to talk about their fields of expertise. The good news is that the literature of literature studies is well controlled, with the result that finding relevant material on the latest topic of inquiry is rather easier than it is, for example, in a frontier field such as women's studies.
